Why should you become an AYSO Referee?

We need you! The kids need you! Referees are critical to soccer - the game can't be played without them. We provide free training and a uniform. You choose the matches you wish to officiate. Participate as much or as little as you want. More importantly, it's rewarding and working with kids is great fun!

Refereeing in AYSO is a challenging and rewarding volunteer experience. Here is an opportunity for you to join the kids on the pitch as they learn to love the “Beautiful Game”. You’ll have a great time and get some exercise too!

AYSO refereeing is available for youth and adult volunteers. Kids as young as 12 years old are permitted to officiate matches in the U10 division. As the kids enter high school, they have opportunities to manage more challenging matches and even earn High School Community Service credits as AYSO referees. Refereeing in AYSO is a terrific way to help kids learn responsibility, build self-confidence, and possibly even begin to build a career. Just as there are professional soccer players who started out as kids in AYSO, there are also professional soccer referees who started out as kids in AYSO.

AYSO Referees certified Intermediate Referee and above can cross-certify to USSF to be eligible to officiate US Soccer club games.

Hybrid Regional Referee Course

New referees must take the Regional Referee Course. Additionally, you MUST complete your AYSOU Regional Referee Course, Safe Haven, SafeSport, Concussion Awareness, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest online modules BEFORE attending the in-person portion of this training.

This is a HYBRID Companion Course That means you must complete/pass the Online Regional Referee Companion Course through the AYSOU Training Library, prior to attending the class.
